Get To Know Edward

As a young child who was raised in a diverse household, I witnessed many different types of relationships with money. I often relate my experience to that of Robert Kiyosaki, author of the New York Times’ bestselling novel, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” except that my story has more to do with my parents’ personal and professional development and the way that it impacted their lives and subsequently mine.

Coming from impoverished and abuse-stricken households, my parents knew education was the only way to change the future of the next generation and “break the cycle.” Born in San Jose, my parents made it a goal to have their kids become first-generation college graduates and they are now proud to say that all three of their children have accomplished that goal.

My parents’ business is transportation. Their journey and purchase of their first truck began in the 1980s and while they have had many good years, they have also had bad years as well. It was pointed out to me that you often learn more during the hard times than the easy ones and I witnessed this firsthand. When learning how to calculate income statements during my education at UC Davis, I calculated that every class I took meant my father had to drive 3,000 extra miles to pay for it and I will forever be grateful for his sacrifice.

Having a fascination for numbers, I initially believed the sciences, such as civil engineering, would be most rewarding. However, this soon changed as I learned that it was the application of numbers to people’s lives that I had a passion for and that communicating this information to our clients was how I would be able to take my passion and make an impactful contribution to our community here in the East Bay Area. Therefore, I majored in Economics and Communications.

After college, I began my journey in wealth management where I felt I could use my newfound skills. I have been a financial planner for over a decade and in that time, I have learned more about people than money. Tomren Wealth Management embodies everything you want in an advisory firm. We are knowledgeable and skilled in our profession, but most importantly, we care about our clients, and we understand that if we serve our clients well, our own success will follow.

Alongside my professional pursuits, I have achieved some personal milestones as well. My wife, Sarah, and I have put down roots here in the East Bay Area, having purchased a home in Walnut Creek that we now enjoy with our two miniature dachshund puppies: Ralph and Mabel. We are looking forward to the next chapter in our lives!

Being a part of Tomren Wealth Management has been one of the greatest blessings I could ask for. For the first time, I feel as if I am surrounded by a team who care as much for the clients as I do. The collaborative culture at Tomren Wealth allows me the privilege of sharing my past experiences with the team and our clients while also affording me the opportunity to utilize the diverse skillset of my colleagues. Together, our team is well-equipped to offer clients an intimate, comprehensive experience that only a boutique firm like ours can provide.
